Question: What are the benefits of Ultherapy compared to other non-surgical skin tightening procedure?

As we age, we lose collagen, a valuable protein which gives skin its elasticity and firmness. There are many devices in the marketplace which offer skin tightening and can potentially replace collagen, but I have found the best to be Ultherapy.

Ultherapy utilizes a patented delivery of bi-directional ultrasound that heats the tissue which is visualized on the ultrasound screen so that the treatment provider knows exactly which plane is being treated, to the perfect temperature for collagen stimulation and growth. This is also known as neocollagenesis. When the two beams of ultrasound energy are pulsed and create an ultra-heated point in the deep tissue, a 360 degree contraction of tissue occurs around that point. When ten ultra-heated points are laid down in a line, and then 800 lines are laid down, one now has an Ultherapy treatment which essentially creates an immediate tightening effect.

More importantly than the immediate effect (which patients love!), Ultherapy creates a longer lasting effect due to the optimal stimulation effect of collagen due to the neocollagenesis. Typically, collagen takes 3-6 months to build and grow just as it takes a baby 9 months to gestate. For younger patients, ages 35-50, it takes 3-4 months to see the effects of Ultherapy take place. For patients ages 60 and older, it takes 6-9 months to see their optimal results.

Ultherapy can be used to treat the upper brow for a non-surgical brow lift, the entire face, the lower face and neck, the décolletage, the chest, the arms for those saggy, tissue-paper skin arms, the abdomen, and the knees. It works very well when combined with other modalities such as the Sciton Halo hybrid laser or radiofrequency microneedling.

The best advantage for Ultherapy I can tout as a provider is that there is zero recovery time for this procedure. Patients can literally go out to dinner with their spouse or friends, and receive compliments on how amazing they look. They get questions like, “Have you lost weight?” or “What did you do to your skin—it looks incredible!”

At the Dermatology Office, we have particular anesthesia protocols that ensure the patient is completely comfortable during their procedure. This is critical to a successful outcome. Without proper local anesthetic and oral medication, this procedure is extremely uncomfortable and patients cannot tolerate the pain. Our patients typically doze throughout the procedure, and never complain about any pain. Unless you are attending the Dermatology Office, you should ask your provider about their pain protocols.

Rebecca Ayala is an Advanced Ultherapy provider who has been to multiple advanced courses. She is excellent at what she can provide the patients, and many of the cosmetic industry representatives come to her for their cosmetic services. During the month of June, Dermatology Office is offering 10% of Ultherapy, and 15% off combination Ultherapy and Halo treatments.
