Expert Skin Care, Grounded in Experience

Choosing a dermatologist means finding a physician who is experienced, responsive, and genuinely skilled at diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions, someone calm, engaging, and empathetic, who treats every patient as an individual and prioritizes education for lasting skin health.

Dr. Ellen Turner has built her practice on exactly those ideals, leading her team from offices in Dallas and Irving, serving the greater metroplex including Plano, Arlington, and Frisco, while continually advancing her craft through new technology and innovative therapies.

What We Treat

Conditions We Diagnose & Treat

From the most common skin concerns to conditions requiring specialized attention, Dr. Turner and her team provide expert, individualized care.

01AcneAs the most common skin condition in the country, acne affects tens of millions of Americans. Dr. Turner and her team routinely treat every case, from non-inflammatory blackheads to severe cysts and nodules.Learn More02Eczema & Atopic DermatitisAtopic dermatitis presents with a wide range of symptoms. Dr. Turner identifies potential triggers and relieves the itching and redness typical of flare-ups, whether the condition affects children or adults.Learn More03Brown Spots & MelasmaThough the exact cause of melasma is not fully understood, the telltale brown spots can be lightened so they are far less noticeable, paired with education to help minimize future problems.Learn More04MolesWhether flat or raised, purely cosmetic or a potential sign of skin cancer, moles are best examined by a licensed dermatologist who can determine what, if anything, should be done about them.Learn More05Molluscum ContagiosumResembling warts, molluscum contagiosum is caused by a virus and spreads easily. The growths can resolve on their own over time, but can also be removed efficiently in a dermatology setting.Learn More06PsoriasisPsoriasis currently has no cure, but it can be effectively managed. The scaly or bumpy patches it causes take many forms, which can be controlled depending on factors unique to each patient.Learn More07RosaceaA persistent redness caused by a specific disease, rosacea requires ongoing symptom treatment. Because home remedies can make it worse, professional care by a dermatologist is crucial.Learn More08Seborrheic KeratosisThough these bumpy growths are benign, an official diagnosis should be made by a dermatologist, since they can closely resemble other, more serious conditions such as skin cancer.Learn More09ScarsScars may result from cuts, burns, trauma, surgery, or conditions such as acne. Numerous options exist for reducing their appearance, tailored to the scar’s type, size, appearance, and location.Learn More10Wellness TestingIn-office checks and lab work explore hormone imbalances, heavy metals, cardiometabolic risk, gut health, and other causes of chronic issues, because your skin often reflects your overall health.Learn More

Patient Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from patients across Dallas, Irving, and the greater metroplex.

Do I need a referral to see Dr. Turner?+
In most cases, no. Whether a referral is required depends on your specific insurance plan, HMO plans often require one from your primary care physician, while PPO plans usually allow you to book directly. We are happy to help you understand your coverage before your visit. Call our Dallas or Irving office and our team will walk you through what your plan needs.
How often should I see a dermatologist?+
For most adults with no specific concerns, a full-body skin exam once a year is recommended to catch any early changes. If you have a history of skin cancer, many moles, fair skin, or significant sun exposure, Dr. Turner may recommend more frequent visits, often every three to six months. Ongoing conditions like acne, eczema, or psoriasis are also typically managed with regular check-ins.
What should I expect at my first appointment?+
Your first visit begins with a conversation. Dr. Turner or a member of her team will ask about your skin concerns, how long you have had them, what you have already tried, and your medical and family history. Depending on your reason for visiting, this may include a focused evaluation or a full-body skin check. Our goal is for you to leave with a clear diagnosis and a plan tailored to you.
When should I have a mole or spot checked?+
Have any spot evaluated if it is new, changing, itching, bleeding, or simply not healing. A helpful guide is the ABCDE rule, watch for Asymmetry, irregular Borders, uneven Color, a Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, or any spot that is Evolving. When in doubt, it is always safer to have Dr. Turner take a look.
Does Dr. Turner treat hair and nail problems too?+
Yes. Dermatology covers the skin, hair, and nails. Concerns like hair thinning, scalp issues, or nail changes may seem cosmetic, but they often have an underlying medical cause, such as a hormonal imbalance, an autoimmune condition, or a nutritional deficiency. Dr. Turner’s wellness-focused approach is well suited to identifying and addressing those root causes.
Will my visit be covered by insurance?+
Most medical dermatology visits, including evaluations for acne, eczema, rashes, moles, and skin cancer, are covered by insurance, though your specific benefits, deductible, and copay vary by plan. Purely cosmetic treatments are generally not covered. Our office team can help verify your benefits, and you can view our accepted plans on our insurance page before you come in.
What is the difference between medical and cosmetic dermatology?+
Medical dermatology diagnoses and treats conditions of the skin, hair, and nails, from acne and eczema to skin cancer. Cosmetic dermatology focuses on enhancing appearance through treatments like injectables, lasers, and skin rejuvenation. Dr. Turner offers both under one roof, so you can address your skin’s health and its appearance with a single trusted physician.
What sunscreen do you recommend?+
A broad-spectrum, physical-block sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, worn daily and reapplied every two hours in direct sun. Physical (mineral) sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are gentle and effective for most skin types. At your visit, Dr. Turner can recommend a specific formula suited to your skin and lifestyle.
Can a skin condition be a sign of a bigger health issue?+
Sometimes, yes. Because your skin is the body’s largest organ, changes in it can reflect what is happening internally, from hormone imbalances to gut health and beyond. This is why Dr. Turner offers wellness testing alongside traditional dermatology, exploring underlying causes rather than treating symptoms alone.
How do I schedule an appointment?+
You can book online in minutes or call us directly at (214) 373-7546. We see patients at both our Dallas and Irving locations, serving the greater metroplex including Plano, Arlington, and Frisco. If you have an urgent concern such as a rapidly changing spot, let our team know and we will do our best to see you promptly.
