GlP-1 Agonists

A Breakthrough Treatment for Weight Management in the Dallas Area

When you live a busy lifestyle, it can be challenging to take on work and other responsibilities while also trying to squeeze time for exercise into your routine. Illness or injury might be preventing you from joining a gym. Even with a successful workout plan, it may still be difficult to achieve the body type you want. Glucagon peptide-like agonists like semaglutide and tirzapetide from Dallas-based dermatologist Dr. Ellen Turner are appetite-suppressing treatments that can provide moderate to dramatic weight loss results. These GLP-1 agonists help the body to produce enough insulin when blood sugar levels are high, reduce the sugar that’s released in your blood, and help you to feel fuller longer, so fewer calories are consumed.

Simply put, semaglutide and tirzepatide can control your appetite so you can limit the amount of food you want to eat. Dr. Turner and her team will determine which GLP-1 agonist is right for you. This strategy can help you lose unwanted pounds and maintain a healthy weight as part of your body optimization journey. If you want to achieve safe, effective, and noticeably slimming results, it’s important to also incorporate healthy lifestyle changes. In other words, semaglutide or tirzepatide is only one part of a comprehensive dietary and wellness plan. It should be combined with an active lifestyle, good nutrition, and a calorie deficit.

What Is a GLP-1 Agonist and How Does It Work?

Glucagon-like peptide agonists are a string of amino acids that mimic the effects of the GLP-1 hormone, which is produced in the gut in response to eating. This hormone prompts the production of insulin when blood sugar levels are high and also reduces the amount of glucagon, which is a hormone that increases blood sugar. Together, these functions help to control blood sugar levels. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide amplify the effects of the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone.

Additionally, GLP-1 may have a positive impact on weight loss in other ways. It can alter the hunger centers in the brain to decrease hunger, appetite, and cravings. Moreover, it supports metabolism and prolongs fullness and satiety after meals by slowing the rate of stomach emptying.

Semaglutide and other GLP1 agonists are not the same thing as insulin, and treatments are unlikely to cause low blood sugar. When combined with a healthy lifestyle, semaglutide or tirzepatide can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes by helping patients achieve significant weight loss. For optimal results, it’s recommended that you combine these medications with a good diet and exercise routine. To enjoy the ideal cosmetic benefit, it can be paired with non-invasive body contouring technology such as EMFACE™ and Emsculpt Neo®.

Can You Achieve a Total Body Transformation With Semaglutide and Tirzepatide?

Both semaglutide and tirzepatide can be combined with EMFACE, Emtone, and Emsculpt Neo® for comprehensive body transformation results. EMFACE™ is a revolutionary facial rejuvenation treatment that pairs focused electromagnetic (HIFEM™) muscle-building technology with radiofrequency (RF) energy. It simultaneously stimulates fat reduction and muscle building while also encouraging collagen production to address age-related changes in the face and improve the shape of the lower face. It’s common for the face to develop sagging and hollow areas after weight loss. EMFACE™ lifts and tightens skin to help you achieve a younger-looking appearance.

Emsculpt Neo® works the same way, but for the body. It can target fat and build muscles at the same time for patients who are mostly in good shape but are unable to tone up some areas as much as they would like with a healthy lifestyle alone. The abdomen, arms, thighs, buttocks, and calves are common treatment areas.

GLP1 agonists like semaglutide and tirzepatide can also be combined with Emtone—an energy-based cellulite treatment that stimulates fat cells—to maximize its results.

Am I A Good Candidate for Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?

Dr. Turner will provide a comprehensive, one-on-one evaluation to determine whether you are a good candidate for semaglutide or tirzepatide, and help you put together a customized treatment plan. She will assist you in establishing the best dosing to maximize results while minimizing side effects. Semaglutide and tirzepatide should not be seen as a “quick fix” for anyone, and each case is different. It’s important to remember that this is not a “cure” for obesity.

Patients who or under the age of 18 or have multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (tumors in your glands), diabetic ketoacidosis, or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, or who have allergies to the ingredients should not use semaglutide or tirzepatide. Patients will also be screened for disordered eating such as binge eating and emotional eating.

The GLP1- Agonist Procedure

Patients will need to self-inject a subcutaneous small needle into a fatty area such as the abdomen once a week at home after they have been given a semaglutide or tirzepatide prescription. These medications should be taken before a meal, once weekly at the prescribed dose. When the correct guidelines are followed, the side effects from these medications are minimal, if any, and the treatment is typically well tolerated. Each patient’s dosage depends on their desired amount of weight loss.

Reduced energy levels and gastrointestinal issues, such as mild nausea, are the most common side effects. These can be managed by starting at a lower dose and gradually increasing the dosage. The short-term side effects from semaglutide and tirzepatide will subside within several days to weeks. Slim Shots which contain B12 can be taken each week with the tablet to help offset these side effects.

Do not use two doses at one time, and do not take semaglutide or tirzepatide after meals. You should also try to avoid overeating while you’re taking this treatment, as doing so can lead to gastrointestinal upset. We recommend that you avoid drinking alcohol or consuming fatty or greasy foods, ultra-processed foods, and high-sugar foods while you’re taking semaglutide or tirzepatide. Weigh yourself daily, exercise for 20 to 30 minutes each day, drink eight to 10 glasses of water, and eat slowly.

When Will I See the Results from GLP1-Agonists, and How Long Will They Last?

You will notice that you feel less hungry within a few days. By decreasing hunger and prolonging a feeling of fullness, the treatment can provide rapid, noticeable weight loss results. Patients can expect to lose between 16 to 20 percent of their body weight within the following three to six months. We will track your progress with monthly weigh-ins.

Both semaglutide and tirzepatide are made to be part of a long-term treatment plan designed to keep the weight off. However, the timeline for taking the medication varies depending on the patient and is based on unique needs.

What Other Treatments Are Available for Achieving a Desired Body Type in Dallas?

In addition to GLP1-agonists like semaglutide and tirzepatide, Dr. Turner’s Dallas-based Dermatology Office also provides other non-surgical options for reducing diet-resistant body fat to reshape the body or refine contours. Emsculpt Neo not only eliminates fat, but increases muscle mass and tone and has been clinically shown to improve core strength. Exion can firm, tighten and lift areas of laxity and cellulite using radiofrequency and artificial intelligence. Kybella® is an injectable containing the same types of bile acids your body uses to help process dietary fats, used to dissolve stubborn below-the-chin fat as a way of reducing a double chin.

Does Dermatology Office Offer Options for Facial Volume Loss After Weight Loss?

Dr. Turner and her team of aestheticians can provide you with multiple options for non- invasive facial rejuvenation after weight loss. It is very common to see sagging and drooping due to the loss of facial fat after weight loss, and while the loss of body mass index is desirable for many health reasons, patients seek cosmetic options that can be performed over a lunch break and return to work the following day. EMFACE can provide lift by treating the muscles of facial expression and reduce wrinkles without needles or recovery time. Dr. Turner personally injects facial fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm to replace lost volume using a cannula to provide natural results with little if any bruising. Silhouette Instalift provides an instantaneous lift with a delayed collagen reaction, giving a glow to the skin which can last up to two years.
