Pioneering Radiofrequency Microneedling for Skin Rejuvenation

Radiofrequency microneedling, an advancement from traditional microneedling, has taken skin rejuvenation, repair and tightening to the next level, but while simultaneously decreasing the recovery times seen with laser devices that may create similar great results, but with longer healing times. Radiofrequency microneedling utilizes spaced fine stationary needles which are applied directly into the skin, and followed by an immediate pulse of radiofrequency energy. Depending on whether the needles utilized are insulated or non-insulated, will determine whether the treatment is more customized to deeper skin tightening and lifting (non-insulated), or whether the channels created (insulated) will allow better penetration of topical products applied directly to the skin surface which are easily absorbed into these channels for clinical effect. It is through both the puncture of these fine needles, as well as the heat or thermogenic effects of the radiofrequency pulse, that collagen III can be replicated. Collagen III is the primary molecule which continues to decrease with aging of the skin. It also is complete lacking in scarring processes. The type of issues which radiofrequency microneedling targets range from surgical or acne scars to skin tightening and rejuvenation of sag, lines, and wrinkles, as well as interruption of the sweat glands […]

Permanent Treatment to Excessive Sweating – RF Microneedling

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a real issue for some people. I have patients that come to me and state that they are unable to wear particular clothes because the problem of excessive sweating is so real, they are painfully embarrassed with the potential resulting appearance. I also have heard patients state that they must bring a change of clothes to work at their desk job because the hyperhidrosis is such as real issue that they cannot wait until they get home at the day’s end. In today’s world, hyperhidrosis should no longer be a difficult clinical issue to treat. We have long had traditional approaches to therapy such as Robinul, clinical strength antiperspirants, and topical aluminum chloride. Approximately a decade ago, Botox gained approval for hyperhidrosis of the underarms (also known as axillary region), but most insurance plans do not cover this issue, considering it to be elective as a treatment option, even when they have failed the traditional approach to hyperhidrosis. Later, a device known as MiraDry, was used to more permanently eliminate the issue of excessive sweating under the arms. However, it was not always effective, and the cost was not only prohibitive to the patients, but […]

The Radiance Membership

As we start a new year in 2017, we are excited to announce a new membership that our patients can take advantage of to continue to rejuvenate and restore their skin clinically. The Radiance Membership allows patients the flexibility of selecting between photorejuvenation or microneedling on a monthly basis for best skin health. Photorejuvenation is a light-based procedure which literally changes gene production of proteins in the skin, repairing damage to cells that can appear as brown spots, redness, small vessels or “broken” vessels as well as textural irregularities that occur with age and sun exposure. This non-invasive lunchtime procedure is most helpful in giving an even skin color or tone, as well as producing proteins that mimic youthful skin. Dr.  Patrick Bitters performed a clinical trial that compared skin biopsies of college students to 70+ year old skin that had undergone 3 photorejuvenation procedures. The two types of cells were almost identical—young, relatively undamaged versus severely damaged but yet treated with photorejuvenation post-damage. Thus, this is an excellent way to both reverse damage and create a healthy and youthful appearance to the skin. Photorejuvenation can be used on both the face, and the body. Best treatment is a field […]

For the perfect lips – Volbella

New to the Allergan family of hyaluronic acid fillers, straight to Dr. Ellen Turner and the Dermatology Office, is Volbella, the newest generation in volumization. Many times, patients are fearful of fillers because they are concerned they will not look natural, or they will look overdone. Patients do not want to radically change their appearance, but rather they wish to slightly improve what nature is slowly taking away from them. Enter Volbella. Volbella was specifically designed, in its hyaluronic acid structure and cross linkage, to provide a very soft and pliable product, which feels natural and appears so as well, especially in the lips. If patients do not want the appearance of “filled lips”, but rather a softer and more subtle definition of the lip, Volbella is the product I recommend. Some patients choose both definition and plumping of the lips, and in these patients, I prefer to use a combination of both Volbella and its predecessor, Juvederm. The longevity of these products is typically one year from time of injection. If patients are hesitant on the quantity, a syringe of Volbella is equivalent to a teaspoon from a measurement standpoint. I will encourage many patients to try 1-2 syringes […]

Why BOTOX®?

As we enter a new year, many people specifically choose to set resolutions as to things they want to improve upon such as learning a new hobby, eliminating a bad habit or working on a new skill. I frequently get asked what I would suggest that would easily and quickly improve someone’s appearance with minimal effort. Typically, after ensuring they are already using sunscreen daily, I tell them about Botox Cosmetic if they are in my Dermatology Office in Dallas, Texas! Botox is a quick and easy in-office injection of a purified protein that will selectively rest certain muscles of facial expression to create a natural and youthful appearance. If someone is told repeatedly by friends and colleagues that they “look mad” or “upset” all the time, perhaps it is time to talk about Botox. There are actually so many reasons TO get Botox, that I would first ask “why not Botox” now. Botox is safe, effective and has been studied and utilized in millions of patients around the globe since the early 1990s. When used properly by the injector, it is a safer drug than normal saline! I have included some facts that were recently released by Allergan, the […]
