Question : What should I avoid to prevent rosacea to flare-up?

Common triggers for rosacea include spicy foods like jalapeno or habanero peppers. Any type of alcohol is a well known trigger for rosacea, with red wine especially being a more severe flare due the higher level of tannins present. Hot liquids such as hot coffee or hot tea can cause a flare of rosacea.

Also, hot showers or working out at the gym can trigger a rosacea flare, but I encourage patients to follow their prescribed therapy and get their rosacea under control so that they can lead a normal life. If they continue to have issues with finding therapy to control their rosacea, we then eliminate gluten first, dairy second and finally we do comprehensive GI testing  and that typically allows us to get excellent control of their rosacea.
